Description	:	Miller Funeral Home- 11/2005 Paul H. Eggers age 96, of Sioux Falls died Tuesday November 22, 2005 at the Sioux Valley Centennial Hospice Cottage. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday at the Hartford City Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 pm at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Eggers, son of August and Sophia (Busse) Eggers, was born October 31, 1909 on the family farm near State Center, IA. He attended rural school, St. John's Parochial School and graduated from State Center High School in 1927. The First National Bank in State Center employed him for 15 months. Paul then enrolled at Simpson College, Indianola, IA where he played football and was later inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 1932. Paul was a teacher and coach in State Center, IA; Frankfort, SD; Oldham, SD, Vienna, SD, Waverly, SD; and Downey, CA. Paul enlisted in the Army in 1941 and was immediately assigned to the Army Finance Department. He received his commission at Duke University in 1942 and served in the States and Europe. Paul remained on active duty until 1948 when he left the service with the rank of Captain. On July 11, 1942, Paul was united in marriage to Lois Tinkham of Colton, SD at First Lutheran Church in Little Rock, AR, on a three-day pass. Lois and her sister, Mary, traveled by bus from Sioux Falls. Paul received his Master's Degree from the University of South Dakota, and continued his education at the University of Southern California. He enjoyed fellowships in New York City and spending time at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis. In 1958 Paul became a member of Augustana College Faculty in the Department of Business Administration and Accounting. He retired from full time teaching in 1974 but continued to teach business subjects at Augie part-time for the next 11 years. Paul and Lois loved to travel both in the U.S. and all over the world. They enjoyed Mr. & Mrs. Dance Group. The couple opened their home to many people over the years and entertained all of Paul's Augustana students every Christmas. Paul was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the VFW, American Legion, and the American Accounting Association. Thankful to God for having been a part of his life are his wife of 63 years, Lois; a son, John Eggers, of Eagle Butte, SD; a daughter, Cheryl (Paul) Nelson of Gettysburg, SD; 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Carmen) Nelson of Sioux Falls, Erik Nelson, of Gettysburg, Kimberly Eggers of Seminole, FL; and 2 treasured great-grandchildren, Parker and Mitchell Nelson of Sioux Falls. His parents, three sisters and four brothers preceded him in death. Buried: 11/26/05. Survived by wife of 63 yrs., Lois Tinkham Eggers who he married on 07/11/1942 in the First Lutheran Church at Little Rock, AR.
