Jeanne was born in Bloomington, IL, on January 4, 1945, to Fraida and Merle Weber. Jeanne received a B.A. in Education from Illinois State University in Normal and taught two years of elementary school in Bloomington, IL. On August 23 of 1969, Jeanne married Louis Thayer and moved to Ypsilanti, MI, where she taught for over 25 years in the Ypsilanti Public School System. During her early years of teaching, Jeanne completed an M.A. in Education at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti. As an educator, Jeanne guided and gently challenged many young people. Jeanne was warm, friendly and encouraging to students and colleagues alike. Jeanne was a diligent and committed member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a professional sorority for educators. She truly enjoyed the friendships, professional commitment and activities. She also edited their newsletter, as she was known to family and professional colleagues for this skill. Jeanne was a dedicated volunteer for the Friends of the Saline Library. She also became a member of one of the classes of the Saline Leadership Group. Jeanne's many passions include her family, her wonderful friends, and the learning process in which she was endlessly involved. She loved her "grand-dogs" as well her own cat, Scamp. Other special passions included reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, finding a beach for enjoyment, keeping a calendar, collecting miniatures…and her hus-band's piles of stuff (books and things, etc.). She also had a special knack for remembering people's birthdays and anniversaries, and everyone always enjoyed receiving a card knowing that Jeanne was thinking of them. In her everyday life, she was both thoughtful and compassionate. Above all, the most important thing to Jeanne was cherishing, loving and nurturing her family. She loved going on family trips, singing endless songs together on long road trips, and making wonderful memories filled with love and laughter. She enjoyed a loving and supportive marriage with her husband and set a wonderful example of what a mom could be to her two daughters and son-in-law. Family life was always happy and special. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Louis Thayer; her daughters Alison (Jorge), Laura Livingston and Shannon Julia Thayer; her mother, Fraida Weber of Bloomington, IL; her sisters, Sandy Bumpus of Bloomington, IL, and Debbie (Steve) Mesner of Lincoln, IL; her brother, Steve (Patty) Weber of North Bend, WA; her sister-in-law, Clarice Elliott of Omaha, NE, and her brother-in-law, Walt Douthit of Berlin, MD. A Celebration of Life in honor of Jeanne will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008, from 12 noon-5 p.m. at Alison and Jorge Livingston's home, 1227 Colony Drive, Saline. Casual attire. Jeanne received wonderful care at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Cancer Research, the Oncology Unit or the Rehabilitation Unit at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, c/o Development Department, 5305 East Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48106. Thayer and his wife, Lois Jeanne Thayer. He was a Wolbach native, graduate of Wolbach High School and a frequent visitor to his "home" town. He taught for many years at a university in Michigan. The Saline, Michigan couple's urns were brought to the cemetery by their two daughters, Shannon J. Thayer and Mrs. Alison Livingston from Michigan for burial in the Thayer plot. R.D. "Sonny" Nealon represented the Cemetery Association and made arrangements. The daughters have accompanied their parents to Wolbach many times over the years and refer to it as back home. Lou is survived by a sister, Clarice Elliott, of Omaha, a son-in-law and a granddaughter. Mrs. Thayer, 64, died in August 2008 and Dr. Thayer, 72, in August 2012, both were victims of cancer.
