Description	:	Lois Lucille Smith, age 66, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Lewis and Minnie Adelmund Hites on July 20, 1936 on her parent's farm near Hitesville in Butler County, Iowa. She attended school in Shell Rock, then in Clarksville. She later completed a Nurse's Aid program at NIACC in Mason City. She attended school in Shell Rock, then in Clarksville. She later completed a Nurse's Aid program at NIACC in Mason City. On August 23, 1952, Lois was united in marriage with Marvin "Rocky" Smith in Allison, Iowa. The couple made their home in Clarksville where she lived since then. Lois worked as a nurse's aid at Viola Arend's rest home in Clarksville, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center and Community Nursing Home in Clarksville. She had taken time off from work to take care of Rev. Sollie's wife in her home. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville where she was involved with the lady's circle at the church. When first married, she used to bicycle and go camping. Lois enjoyed playing piano and the organ. She was a Cub Scout leader for many years. On Sunday mornings, she enjoyed listening to the Leo Greco Show. Lois liked to watch the hummingbirds, enjoyed baking and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. On Saturday, January 11, 2003, Lois died at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, of pneumonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Hites in September, 1962 and Minnie Hites in April, 1991, and one brother, Roger Hites, killed in VietNam, January, 1967. Lois is survived by her husband, Marvin "Rocky" Smith, Clarksville; two sons, Travis (Shirley) Smith, Clarksville; and Darwin Smith, Clarksville; four grandchildren, Rodney (Jody) Smith, Kimberly Smith, Melissa Smith, and Sarah Smith; one brother, Rick (Judy) Hites, Harrison, Arkansas; two nephews, Yancey Hites and Justice Hites and one niece, Ann Freerks. Funeral Service were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa, with Pastor David Nelson officiating. Organist Lois Roose accompanied soloist,Glenda Timmer who sang "In The Garden." Congregational Hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Just As I Am." Casketbearers were Travis Smith, Darwin Smith, Rodney Smith, Kimberly Smith, Sarah Smith, Melissa Smith, Jody Smith and Yancey Hites. Interment was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials were directed to the family.
