Hottenstein Lois Marian Smith was born April 15, 1844, in Ohio and died January 18, 1915, aged 70 years, 9 months, and 3 days. At two years of age she removed with her parents to Illinois where she spent the early years of her life. She became the wife of J. O. Hottenstein April 9, 1864. To this union was born 8 children, Addie Bell, Nellie May, Russell Wilder, Ida Estella, Fred Justin, and Archie Philip, two children dying in infancy. She and her husband moved to Kansas in 1867 and moved on the farm east of Humboldt where she has lived ever since except two years in Humboldt. She was converted and joined the church in Humboldt in 1870. When the church was organized at Maple Grove she transferred her membership there and was a faithful worker and member of the church as long as she was able. She was a consistent Christian and did all she could to make those around her happy. She was a devoted mother to her children, always anxious to do something for them. Before she died she called all the family to the bedside and said she wanted to tell them good-bye. She said she was going home to Jesus and to see her mother. She asked all to meet her in that home. Another soul has gone home to its rest, where there will be no more sickness, no more pain, no more death. We are sure all is well with her. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. A. Gordon of Columbus, who was her pastor several years before she was stricken with paralysis. She was laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery. Note: bio info provided by Carolyn Whitaker (#47049540)
