Description	:	Frankfort Area News August 3, 2004 Lois R. Schafer, 93, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital. She was born January 14, 1911 in Axtell, Kansas the daughter of John Parli and Dora Ellen (Berry) Parli. She graduated from Axtell High School in 1930. Lois married James C. Schafer, of Vermillion, Kansas in September 1931. They lived on a farm south of Vermillion, Kansas until 1937, then moved into Vermillion and James became a rural mail carrier for Route 2 north of Vermillion. Schafer, 93, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital. She was born January 14, 1911 in Axtell, Kansas the daughter of John Parli and Dora Ellen (Berry) Parli. She graduated from Axtell High School in 1930. Lois married James C. Schafer, of Vermillion, Kansas in September 1931. They lived on a farm south of Vermillion, Kansas until 1937, then moved into Vermillion and James became a rural mail carrier for Route 2 north of Vermillion. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Lois is survived by a daughter Joyce Loughary Vermillion, Kansas; a son, Colonel James Richard "Dick" Schafer, Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren, 11 great-grand- children and one great-great-grandchild. Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church in Vermillion where she had served as the church treasurer, President of the Ladies Aide Group, and she served on a Committee that redecorated the church. She was the first woman to serve on the Verm- illion City Council. Mrs. Schafer was cremated and a private graveside service will be at a later date. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion, Kansas.
