Deiber Lois W. Deiber was born July 15, 1926, the daughter of Christian and Sadie Carstensen. She died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Holy Spirit Retirements Home in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight. Lois was born on a farm in rural Charter Oak, Iowa, receiving her education in rural country schools near her home. In addition to helping her family on the farm, Lois did domestic work for others in the area. On March 17, 1955, she was united in marriage to Glen Deiber at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of three daughters. The couple made their home on a farm near Ricketts, Iowa, where Lois devoted her time to raising her family. At age 50, Lois returned to school and received her CNA license, working at Willow Dale Nursing Home until her retirement. After Glen’s death in 1994, Lois moved to Ricketts, and in 2004, she made her home in Sioux City, Iowa. Lois was a very devoted Christian, having been baptized and later confirmed on April 6, 1941, at the Hanover Township Church. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and later became a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, after moving to the Ricketts area. Throughout her life, Lois enjoyed gardening, baking, with everyone always looking forward to her famous bread, dancing, listening to polka time, and playing euchre. She was also loved following baseball, mainly the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals. She was especially proud of her involvement with the community of Ricketts. One of her fondest memories was a trip that her and Glen took to New Orleans for their 25th wedding anniversary. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen; one sister, Evelyn; one brother, Wilbur; one brother-in-law, Wallace and his wife, Bernadine; two sisters-in-law, Marian and her husband, Meiney and LaVerne. Survivors include: three daughters: Sharon and her husband, Mark; Sheryl; Sheri and her husband, Russ; 8 grandchildren: Aaron and special friend, Morgan; Megan and her husband, Jamey; Adam and his wife, Sarah; Mary and friend, Chris; Kara and significant other, Dayton; Andrew; Kylee; and special friend, Christian; and Lauren; 4 great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Finleigh,Quentin and Ava; four brothers-in-law, Wilbur; Lloyd and his wife, Janice; Ronald and his wife, Carol; and Alan and his wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Maxine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the Care Initiative Hospice and Holy Spirit Retirement Community for being her second family and taking such good care of her. * * * * * *
