Knowles, 91, of Holton, KS passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Holton Community Hospital. She was born July 6, 1918 in rural Holton, the daughter of George Cameron and Florence Downie Taylor. Frances graduated from Holton High School in 1936 as valedictorian of her class. She furthered her education in Kansas City, KS and worked for many years in the advertising field at Potts Woodbury Inc. Frances and her husband Ernest shared a love of the outdoors and traveled many years throughout the United States. Frances returned to Holton in 1998 and was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church, Faith Circle, Banner Grange, Banner Ladies Aid and Kings Daughters Sunday School Class. Frances married Ernest A. Knowles, Jr. on June 4, 1939 in Holton*. He passed away on January 8, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Taylor and a sister, Marjorie Taylor Brockelman. Survivors include nieces, Nancy DeKeyser, Patricia McClintock, Sarah LeDoux all of Holton and Mary Bianchi of Shawnee, KS; and their families. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment will be in the Holton Cemetery.
