She was born at Home City, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Emma Schmidt Blaser. She started her education in the Winifred School and then after her first year the family moved to a farm near Marysville, Kansas, and she later graduated from Marysville High School. Besides... Read More	PITTSBURG, KS - Lola H. Hoyer, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 2:26 am, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Pittsburg, KS. She was born at Home City, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Emma Schmidt Blaser. She started her education in the Winifred School and then after her first year the family moved to a farm near Marysville, Kansas, and she later graduated from Marysville High School. She attended a number of universities before and after graduating from Westmar College at LeMars, Iowa, with degrees in education and art. She graduated along with her daughter Beverly Ann. Besides Westmar she had credit at the University of Wisconsin, University of Kansas, Kansas State University, St. Marys, Emporia State University and Benedictine College. She taught school ten years in Marshall County and 30 years in Atchison County. She had all four of her daughters as students. An active member of the church, she went on 20 mission trips throughout the United States and Mexico. She also taught Sunday school for 40 years. Coaching softball took up many hours and she also played professional softball herself. She wrote hundreds of poems for people on special occasions. On June 1, 1941, at Marysville she was united in marriage to Walter B. Hoyer who was also from the Marysville Community. The Lord blessed this union with four daughters. The family moved to Atchison area in 1951 where her husband passed away on April 25, 1958. Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents and three sisters, Mildred Perkins in 1991, Esther Pralle in 1993, Edna Wilson in 1998 and twin grandchildren, Aaron and April Baze in 1992 and one brother Walter Blaser. She is survived by four daughters, Beverly Ann (Michael) Donahue of Sparta, Wisconsin; Janys (William) Schroeder of Kingsley, Iowa; Peggy Baze of Pittsburg, Kansas and Connie (Patrick) Kelly of Daniels, West Virginia; a sister Fern Blaschke of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother Floyd Blaser of Canadaigua, New York. She considered Matthew and Curtis Bolinger to be her second family which she enjoyed after her own daughters were raised. Seven grandchildren: Marc (Ann), Sean (Chenin), Casey Donahue; Brian (Angela), Paul (Stephanie) Kelly; Amanda (Aaron) Gieseke; and Stephen Brown. Three step grandchildren: Gregory (Erin), Adam (Kim) Schroeder; and Kris (Joel) Conrad. She had five great-grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hoyer moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1999 to be closer to her daughter Peggy Baze. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene, Via Christi Auxiliary, and Pittsburg Senior Citizens, played pinochle at the Frontenac Senior Citizens and at the Homer Cole Center, the Retired Teachers Association, AARP, Pittsburg Christian Women's Club and the KNEA. Funeral services will be 7 pm Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsbug, KS with the Rev. Jim Sukraw, of the First Chruch of the Nazarene, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be 2 pm Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Marysville City Cemetery in Marysville, Kansas. Friends may call after 11 am Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Via Christi Cancer Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
