Read More	MO d/c 35227 Information on file with Shelby County Historical Society & Museum CHLOROFORM FUMES ARE FATAL TO YOUNG WOMAN One of the saddest deaths that it has been our duty to chronicle was that of Miss Lola Beckley of northwest of Shelbyville, who died last Thursday afternoon while sitting in a chair at the Beckley home as a result of inhaling fumes from a bottle of chloroform, which she was using to clean clothes. Her body was found by her father, Ben S. Beckley, and her brother, Elwyn, when they returned from a nearby field where they had been working. She was sitting near the kitchen stove with a piece of fur and clothing in her lap and the open bottle of chloroform by her side. Evidently she had been overcome by the fumes and fell asleep and, as she continued to breathe the poison, choked to death. She may have been dead some time when her body was found as she had been alone in the house all afternoon. Miss Beckley was born August 25, 1903, and was in her 21st year. She was very popular in the community in which she lived and was well known and had many friends in Shelbyville, where she attended school for two years. Since leaving school here she had been keeping house for her father and brother and their loss is immeasurable. She had a sweet and loving disposition and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had been a member of the Berea church for a number of years. Besides her father and the brother mentioned above, she leaves a brother, Alfred B. Beckley, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Prange and Mrs. Charles Stewart, all of this county. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 11 0 clock at Berea church, conducted by Rev. C. E. Nichols, and burial was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery in Shelbyville. The family has the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
