Mrs. Silk was born on April 6, 1907, in Greeley County to Pete and Bessie (Imus) Berney. She was educated in a rural school nine miles northeast of Wolbach. After her schooling, she played piano for a band and also worked at the Glen View Hotel in Wolbach. She married Tim Silk on July 5, 1927, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed near Wolbach and then moved to the Cushing area, where they farmed for 40 years. They moved to St. Paul in October 1968. She worked at the Heritage Living Center for five years. Her husband died on May 28, 1993. She moved to the Coolidge Center in Palmer on Sept. 1, 1994, and then to Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island on May 2, 2000. Her hobbies included making afghans. Survivors include one son, Wayne of Mesa, Ariz; three daughters, Fern (Mrs. Max) Kunze of Grand Island, Lavona (Mrs. Fay) Gillham of Scotia and Connie (Mrs. Gary) Parmley of Sioux Falls, S. D.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother Virgil Berney of Palmer; and one sister, Velda Vogt of Green City, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Leland and Loyal.
