Mr. Silk was born June 3, 1903 at Pottawattamie County, Iowa, to Thomas and Anna (Hoffman) Silk. He moved with his family to a farm in Greeley County. He was educated in a rural school near Wolbach. He farmed in that area before his marriage. On July 5, 1927 he married Lola Berney at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple first farmed near Wolbach, then they moved to the Cushing area where they farmed for 40 years. He later worked as a surveyor. In October 1968 the couple moved to St. Paul. Survivors include his wife; one son, Wayne of Mesa, Ariz; three daughters, Fern Kunze of Grand Island, Lavona Gillham of Scotia and Connie Parmley of Sioux Falls, S. D. ; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Nora Rother, Lela Steenson, Marie Jepson, and LaVerne Thomsen and two brothers, Delmer and Leo.
