The Kansas Optimist, Jamestown, Thursday, February 5, 1953, page 1: Mrs. Jack Herbin Dies Suddenly Mrs. A.A. "Jack" Herbin died Tuesday morning at 8:30 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia. The death came as a shock to family and friends for although Mrs. Herbin had been in ill health for the last 4 years, having undergone numerous operations, her last illness was very brief. She was admitted to the St. Joseph Hospital last Sunday. Mrs. Herbin was well liked in the community and for 7 years before her illness she was president of the Altar Society, here in Jamestown. She was also chairman of the local Red Cross drives for several years. Mrs. Herbin, 55 years old, was born Oct. 14, 1898. Before her marriage to Mr. Herbin, May 15, 1920, she lived in the Glasco community. She was formerly Miss Lola Downey, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Downey. Except for about 12 years when Mr. and Mrs. Herbin traveled with a painting and construction company throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wyoming, they spent their married life in the Jamestown community. Mrs. Herbin is survived by her husband, 2 brothers, Francis Downey of Glasco and George Downey of St. Joseph, Missouri, and sister, Mrs. Mabel Hann of Neosho, Missouri. Funeral services were held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church Thursday morning, Feb. 4 at 9 o'clock. Celebrant was the Rev. F.P. Coupal, C.M. Music was by Mrs. Murray Fitzgerald, organist and the St. Mary's choir. Casket bearers were Richard Loftus, Armin Herbin, Bernard Coad, Lawrence Blockinger, Paul Charbonneau and W.L. Murray. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
