Description	:	Lonie was born November 22, 1901, in Alabama. She had that Southern accent all her life. She moved to southwestern South Dakota and taught school. She met Leo Green in northwest Nebraska where he was selling Seventh Day Adventist books, like his father had at one time. They were married on January 17, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to southwestern South Dakota and taught school. She met Leo Green in northwest Nebraska where he was selling Seventh Day Adventist books, like his father had at one time. They were married on January 17, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska. Leo had homesteaded at Camps Pass, MT, in 1917. It was then in Custer County, but about 1919 became Powder River County. He lived in a dugout and then built another. After his marriage to Lonie, they went back to the homestead and he worked for Vernon Lockwood a month or so while he built a new one-room log cabin with a door of boards, one window, and a dirt floor. There was one juniper tree on the place, which is not unusual in that part of Montana. They had three wells on the place and the water was so full of alkali that not even the animals would drink it, forcing them to haul water by the barrel from a neighbor's well. Leo broke horses and then would take them to Nebraska and sell them. He traveled by covered wagon and took about a month on the trip. Vern and Ervin South helped him break up ground for planting (less than half of it was arable). Leo had to rebuild all of the fences, as the wire and the posts had been stolen in his absence. His brother, Charlie Green, sent him the money for that project. He also worked at hauling telephone poles and coal on contract. They sold the place for $100 in 1931 and went back to Nebraska, Leo working as a laborer, part of the time on WPA. In the 1950s all that was left on the homestead was a large rock that he had used as a front porch. Leo and Lonie were both Seventh Day Adventists. Leo died November 25, 1942, in Omaha, NE. Lonie remained a single widow, lived and worked several places over the years. She stayed in Boulder, Colorado for several decades, working as an unskilled caregiver and companion for several older ladies. In about 1980 she moved into a retirement residence on the campus of the old Colorado Sanitarium at the corner of Mapleton Avenue and Fourth Street. Lonie died of complications associated with her diabetes on September 27, 1988. Aged: 86 Yrs, 10 Mos, 5 Days. by Fred South 2011 and Steven Lake 2016
