She was born March 16, 1905, to Eben and Lora Miller (Hood) Simon, at Mantua, Ohio. When she was 2 years old, she moved with her family to East Wenatchee where they lived on Grant Road. The home they purchased was known as "Peyton Place." She was raised and educated in East Wenatchee and graduated from Wenatchee High School. Joy married Edwin T. "Ed" Farrington on Aug. 30, 1924, at the family home in East Wenatchee where they made their residence. Mrs. Farrington worked as a partner with her husband in the orchard and packing shed, Mann and Farrington, now known as Northern Fruit. They began the packing shed in 1937. She was one of the original owners of the Wenatchee Valley Mall and with her husband she was one of the founders of Security Bank of Washington, now known as Washington Mutual. Joy's favorite association was her family. She was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church, a member of East Wenatchee Garden Club and Ladies Elks No. 1186. Survivors include one son, Bill Farrington of Lynnwood; one daughter, Jacquie Letts of Wenatchee; grandchildren Larry, Randy and Tammy Letts, Ed Farrington, Lori Willis and Bill Farrington; great-grandchildren Tawnya and Tara Letts, Randall Chandler, Tiffany Letts-Brandt, Ryan Letts, Kammy Farrington, Jett Schooley, Austin, Keegan and Kaytlin Willis, and Jamison Farrington; and one great-great-grandson, Myles Letts-Brandt. She was preceded in death by her husband; three children, Eldon, Edene and Jimmy Farrington; five brothers, Roger, Harold, Eben, Mahlon and Gayle Simon; and three sisters, Jessie Payne, Gladys Manley and Edith Davis. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
