"Ed" Farrington, 89, a former longtime East Wenatchee resident and businessman, died Sunday, June 19, 1994, in the Highline Convalescent Center. He was born Oct. 24, 1904, in Farmington to Sherman and Marie (Adler) Farrington. He moved with his parents at a young age to Idaho, where they operated a sawmill. They moved to Ephrata in 1916, where he continued his education. He worked in the fruit industry in Ephrata and Moses Lake and because there was no high school in the area, he attended high school in Seattle for a year. He returned to Ephrata and then moved to Wenatchee. Mr. Farrington leased a cherry orchard in the early 1920s on the Wenatchee River. He married Joy Simon on Aug. 30, 1924, in East Wenatchee, where they made their home. He worked in area orchards and for Thayer & Gellatly and later for Rose Mann. He and Mrs. Mann formed Mann & Farrington Packing Shed, which they operated for several years. Following Mrs. Mann's death, he and David Gellatly became partners and operated the business until selling it to Northern Fruit in 1974. He and his wife lived on Baker Flats until moving to Wenatchee in 1990. They later moved back to East Wenatchee. He also raised registered Hereford cattle for a number of years. Mr. Farrington was one of the founders and a former board member of Security Bank of Washington, now Columbia Bank. He was a life member of the Central Christian Church; a life member of Riverside Lodge No. 112, F&AM; a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason; a 50-year member of the East Wenatchee Grange; a 39-year member of the Elks Lodge; and a member of the Wenatchee Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, East Wenatchee; one son, Bill D., Seattle; one daughter, Jacquie Letts, Wenatchee; one sister, Darlene Hennessey, Edmonds; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, one brother and a sister. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
