Mr. Cox had suffered a paralytic stroke a week previously from which he never rallied. He had supposedly been in excellent health up to that time. Born in Fairmount, he was the son of the late William Cox and Henrietta Adams Cox. Mr. Cox was one of the best known and highly respected residents of the lower part of Somerset county. During his lifetime he engaged in lumbering activities, as a contractor had moved many buildings of all types, and had been successful as a grower of broilers. He was a kindly and courteous man, whose friends were legion, and the many fine qualities he possessed and exercised in his daily life gained for him the admiration and deep regard of everyone who knew him. In his contracting business there was no job too tough for him to tackle and successfully execute, and he seemed to do his work with a minimum of effort. In his daily life he was a good, conscientious citizen, interested in good government, and extending himself to be helpful to neighbors and friends and those in need. There is deep sorrow in many hearts at his passing. Funeral services were held in Phoenix Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2.00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Clifford Jeffers. Interment was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Bearers were neighboring farmer friends, Ernest C. Adams, Harold Taylor, George Marsh, John Brittingham, Thurman Dize Sr., and Ralph Morris Sr. The large attendance at the funeral and the lovely floral pieces attested to the esteem and regard in which he was held. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Manie Sterling Cox, one son, William S. Cox, two daughters. Mrs. George Cullen and Mrs. Marurice Ward, all of this community, one brother, Algie Cox of Marumsco, and six grandchildren. The Crisfield Times, March 9, 1951 pgs.1&4
