Description	:	Loree Hughes Sumerel, 93, of 213 Forest Dr. and widow of William Paul Sumerel, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012, at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Laurens Co., she was a daughter of the late Dock and Eva Brown Hughes. An active member of First Baptist Church for 76 years where she taught 4 and 5 year old Sunday School for 50 years and was affectionately known as "Miss Loree." She retired from the J.P. Read More	Loree Hughes Sumerel, 93, of 213 Forest Dr. and widow of William Paul Sumerel, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012, at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Laurens Co., she was a daughter of the late Dock and Eva Brown Hughes. An active member of First Baptist Church for 76 years where she taught 4 and 5 year old Sunday School for 50 years and was affectionately known as "Miss Loree." She retired from the J.P. Stevens Watts Plant, served with the Laurens County Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years and was a member of the Martha Franks Singers. Miss Loree was devoted to her family, her church, and her faith. Surviving are her children: William M. Sumerel and wife Rosemarie of Greenville; James B. "Jim" Sumerel and wife Elaine of Laurens; Libby Sumerel Day of West Columbia; and daughter-in-law, June D. Sumerel of Columbia; sisters: Sara H. Taylor of Laurens; Mary H. Brown of Laurens; Alice H. Cotney of Warrenville; grandchildren: William M. Sumerel, Jr. of Brentwood, Tn.; Leigh Sumerel Yarbrough of Mt. Pleasant; Mary Maurice Sumerel Young, of Columbus Ga.; Wells Sumerel of Chapin; Michael Day of W. Columbia and currently serving in Afghanistan; and Jon Day, of West Columbia; and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Donald H. Sumerel; sisters, Bertha Johnson, Lunie Owens, Frances Hughes, Rachel Madden and Edna Walker; and brothers, Ralph Hughes and Bob Hughes. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2012, at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rickey Letson, Rev. Phil Hall and Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, Jr. A private committal will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main St., Laurens, S.C. 29360.
