Description	:	Loren Elmer Whitcome Jr., 71, died at the St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nev. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998. Loren was born in Berkeley, Calif, on Feb. 7, 1927, and had been a Lassen County resident since moving here from Salinas in 1962. Before retiring, he had been employed by the California State Department of Corrections as a vocational education supervisor for 31 years. Loren was born in Berkeley, Calif, on Feb. 7, 1927, and had been a Lassen County resident since moving here from Salinas in 1962. Before retiring, he had been employed by the California State Department of Corrections as a vocational education supervisor for 31 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a 35-year member and past treasurer of the B.P.O.E., past secretary of the C.S.E.A. Chapter 704, and past secretary of the California Correctional Center Trade Advisory Council. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War H. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joyce Whitcome, of Susanville; mother, Loretta Cohen, of Carson City, Nev.; sons, Paul Whitcome, of Alturas, Dan Whitcome, of Modesto, and Bill Whitcome, of Susanville; brother, Harvey Whitcome, of Carson City; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Whitcome. Visitation was held at Walton's Colonial Mortuary on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. A vigil was also held on that date at the Sacred Heart Church, in Susanville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church on Friday, Sept. 4. Burial followed at the Lassen Cemetery.
