Loren John Pothast was born on March 22, 1940, the son of Lloyd and Hilda (Brase) Pothast in Waverly, Iowa. Read More	Loren Pothast, 79, of Shell Rock, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Shell Rock Care Center in Shell Rock, Iowa. Loren John Pothast was born on March 22, 1940, the son of Lloyd and Hilda (Brase) Pothast in Waverly, Iowa. He was baptized on April 14, 1940 and confirmed on April 11, 1954 both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. He attended country school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Plainfield High school in 1958. On April 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Schilling at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. Loren worked at Waterloo Industries from 1961 until retiring in September 1993 due to suffering a stroke. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. Loren enjoyed hunting with his sons, watching the Chickasaw sports events, Wartburg football and collecting and refinishing antique furniture. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Pothast of Shell Rock, Iowa; daughter, Lori (Scott) Frerichs of New Hampton, Iowa; two sons, Mark (Theresa) Pothast of Shell Rock, Iowa and Michael Pothast of Shell Rock, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; two brothers, Kermit (Harriet) Pothast of Fredricksburg, Iowa and Merwin (Wendy) Pothast of Waverly, Iowa; sister, Karen (Doug) Alexander of Prole, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home of Shell Rock, Iowa is assisting the Pothast family with arrangements.
