She was married to Mr. Thomas Cocland on April 7th, 1855. To this union five boys and five girls were born. All the boys and one of the girls preceded her in death. The children living are Mrs. Ella Riddle of Edmond, Okla.; Mrs. R. Spease of McCune; Mrs. Harriet Folsom of Atoka, Okla.; and Mrs. Chas. Sticker of this city. There are seventeen grandchildren besides great and great-great grandchildren. She, with her husband and children, came to Allen county, Kansas, in 1859 and moved to Crawford county in 1866. She lived in Cherokee about 40 years. Until a few years ago when she moved to McCune, she and her daughter, Mrs. Stocker, lived together and it has been the talk of the town, the untiring manner in which Mrs. Stocker looked after her mother, who was practically an invalid for so many years. She was devotion itself and it must be with pleasure that Mrs. Stocker can look back upon those years and realize that she was so dutiful a daughter. Mrs. Cocland united with the Baptist church at the age of 16 years. On coming to Kansas, she united with the Presbyterian church. The first Presbyterian church organized in Crawford county was organized in their home, a log cabin. A picture of the house was sent East and sold for $500.00 and the amount applied on the building of the Presbyterian church at Monmouth. Mrs. Coffland (?) was married to Simon Hook in 1879 and she was again left a widow in 1895. She united with the M.E. church in Cherokee in August, 1886, and remained a member to her death. We cannot remember when we did not know Mrs. Hook. When a small boy we used to go to their home considerable, but of late years had lost out on doing so. Grandma Hook was a character of strength, having a mind of her own and using it. She knew what she wanted and usually got it. She was one of the pioneer women who kept her identity until death. Funeral services were conducted in the M.E. Church in Cherokee on Monday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. E.L. Torrence, and the body laid to rest in the Cherokee cemetery. Contributed by Cheryl White
