She was the granddaughter of Halvor and Julianna Nelson and Evan and Rebecca Strande, Kittitas Valley Pioneers. She is survived by her son Donald C. Swangler and his wife, Harriet, Ellensburg; daughter Lois E. Knutson and her husband Tom Dobbin, Desert Aire; and brother Orville W. Nelson, Ellensburg. She is also survived by granddaughter Kristi Stougard, Ellensburg; and her husband Mike; granddaughter, Cathy Barrea and her husband Carlos, Dubai; and grandson Gary Knutson, Seattle; and 5 great grandchildren, Kevin Knutson, Kayla Stougard, Mylissa Stougard, Rachel Barrea and Rebecca Barrea. She is also survived by nephews Darold Ringer and Dale Nelson of Ellensburg as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands Adam C. Swangler and William E. Rushton and two grandchildren Donald Swangler in 1978 and Debbie Swangler Knutson in 1983 as well as two brothers and a sister. At the time of death, Lorene resided at Hearthstone Cottage. She was a long-time member of the Eagles Lodge, having served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Loyal Order of Moose. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 24 at Steward and Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg with interment at the IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. Lorene was a loving Mother, a devoted Grandmother, and good friend with a love for life. She had a lovely smile and will be sorely missed by her family.
