Description	:	Orville W. Nelson, 88, died May 11, 2001, at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg after suffering from a heart attack on May 4. He was born in Ellensburg, March 30, 1913, the youngest of five children of Albert and Minnie (Strande) Nelson. Orville was raised in Ellensburg, graduating from Ellensburg High School in 1931. Nelson, 88, died May 11, 2001, at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg after suffering from a heart attack on May 4. He was born in Ellensburg, March 30, 1913, the youngest of five children of Albert and Minnie (Strande) Nelson. Orville was raised in Ellensburg, graduating from Ellensburg High School in 1931. Orville served in WWII in the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Corp of Engineers during the North Africa campaign. He was then transferred to the 1st Corp of Engineers and 2nd Battalion during the invasions of Sicily and Italy. He served in almost the entire campaign before being notified his father was very ill and was sent home in early 1945, just before the war ended. After returning home, Orville met and married Mae Frear Anderson of Ellensburg on May 19, 1949. Mae had two children, Phyllis Anderson Miller of Kirkland and William E. Anderson, Drain, Oregon. Orville worked in Alaska many years for M & B Construction Co. as a mechanical engineer. He worked in Alaska until retirement age, returning to Ellensburg where he and his wife enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a life member of the Eagles Lodge in Ellensburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Frear Nelson; his parents; and four brothers and sisters, Arthur Nelson, Blanche Nelson Ringer, Howard Nelson and Lorene Nelson Swangler; two great nephews, Donald C. Swangler, Jr. and Gary S. Knutson; and a great niece Debra Swangler Knutson. He is survived by a niece and nephew, Lois Swangler Knutson and her daughter Cathy Barrea, Donald C. Swangler and his daughter, Kristi Williams; nephews, Darold Ringer and Dale Nelson, Arvey Nelson and a niece, Phyllis Nelson Thompkins; three cousins, Janet Campbell, Freida Chandler, Doris Westberg; a great great nephew; and four great great nieces also survive him. Following cremation by Steward and Williams Crematory, graveside memorial services will be held 11 a.m., May 18 at the IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. A reception immediately following the service will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Ellensburg. Ellensburg Daily Record, May 15, 2001
