Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Versailles Health Care Center. She had resided in recent years at the Versailles Health Care Center due to declining health. Loretta was born December 4, 1924, in Wabash Township, near North Star; daughter of the late Charles W. & Amelia C. (Kruckenberg) Grewe. Loretta retired from the Versailles Exempted Village School District after 30 years of service (1958 to 1988). In 1958 she began working for the Wabash Local Schools as an assistant cook at the North Star School. She was the Cafeteria Manager at the North Star building from 1969 to her retirement. Loretta worked for 23 years as custodian of the North Star School building from 1964 to 1987. After her retirement she and her husband continued to live on their farm in Wabash Township where they had made their home for more than 58 years. During her retirement, she continued her interest in food preparation, nutrition and new recipes. She enjoyed attending house and preserving the produce of their fruit trees and small garden. She especially enjoyed traveling with Marvin to visit family, friends as they experienced other parts of the country. Loretta attended grade school at the one-room Union School, a mile south on Cohee Road. She was a graduate of the class of 1942 from Ansonia High School. She was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Star; American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Buckeye Post 174 of North Star; Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of Greenville; and the Pampa Reunion Association of Pampa, Texas. In addition to her parents, Loretta is also preceded in death by brothers, Elmer Grewe, Norman Grewe, and Lawrence Grewe. Loretta is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin E. Ray, whom she married June 12, 1946. She is also survived by son & daughter-in-law, Mahlon E. & Monica Ray of Columbus, Ohio; daughters & sons-in-law, Maretta J. & Michael N. Kalinich of Corning, New York, Rachael A. Henderson of Celina, Ohio, and Jana L. & Doug A. Reed of Jackson, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 13495 Greenville-St. Marys Rd., Versailles (North Star), with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in North Star. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the church.
