Loretta Lucille Orender Smith daughter of August and Hannah (Vanderloop) Kleffner was born December 8, 1920 on the family farm northwest of Primrose and at an early age, moved with her family to a farm east of Spalding. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding. She attended country school Districts 63 & 87 through the 8th grade and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1937. After graduation she worked for two years in Omaha as a nanny and housekeeper. On November 23, 1939, Loretta was united in marriage to Louis F. Orender. To this union, three sons were born: Bill, Ron and Doug. They first lived on a farm near Akron, NE until moving into Albion in 1952. Loretta began working for Waid’s Pharmacy for seven years before she bought Modern Fashions clothing store, which she owned and managed for 35 years. She also worked in the evenings at the Albion Country Club for 25 years. Louis passed away July 24, 1979. Loretta was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Albion, VFW Auxiliary and Albion Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed bowling, needlework and quilting. Loretta is survived by her two sons: Ronald Orender of Burwell and Doug Orender and wife Sandy of Albion; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters: Sally McMinamen of Holdrege; Annette (Dick) Ackman of Greeley; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis in 1979, a son William in 2000, brother James Kleffner and two sisters, Doris Heldt and Esther Bloom.
