Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, with the Revs. Don Buhrman and Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Bloom was born Dec. 25, 1916, at Pinnacle Hill Farm east of Cedar Rapids, the oldest daughter of August and Hannah Vanderloop Kleffner. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Janice of Greeley, Dan and Karen of Spalding, Greg and Linda of Casper, Wyo., and Terry and Jennifer of Columbus; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Loretta Smith of Albion, Sally McMinamin of Holdrege and Annette and Dick Ackman of Greeley. Esther attended Mud Creek Country School east of Spalding through the eighth grade and graduated from Spalding Public School in 1934. She received Normal Training and taught at Primrose and several rural schools. In 1970, she graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in elementary education and taught at many schools in Boone and Greeley counties. Esther was married to Matt Bloom on Oct. 21, 1936, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. They lived and farmed east of Spalding until 1975, when they moved into Spalding. Matt passed away on Jan. 29, 1979.
