Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Eric Biehl officiating. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Loretta was born August 7, 1921, in Hebron, NE to Herbert T. and Lennie Mae (Leckenby) Dowdy. She attended country school north of Carleton, NE until the 8th grade and graduated from Carleton High School in 1939. She furthered her education at Hastings College for two years, where she earned her teaching certificate. She then taught school in the Carleton and Sutton areas for five years. On July 10, 1943, she married Walter V. Becker in Norfolk, VA., and to this union three sons were born. In 1946, they moved to a farm south of Sutton, where she was the homemaker for the family farm operation. In 1981, she began working for her son Brian, handling the office affairs for Becker Transportation, she retired in 2009. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a past State President. She was a member of the Federated Church, the Federated Church women's fellowship and 8/40. She is survived by her husband Walt Becker of Sutton, NE; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Monica Becker of Wahoo, NE; Kim and Becky Becker of Sutton, NE; Brian and Stacy Becker of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Jason and wife Melissa Becker of Ankeny, IA; Anna Becker of Chicago, IL; Nikki and husband Scott Sjuts of Trumbull, NE; Bryce Becker of Madison, WI; Breann, Brooke and Blake Becker all of Hastings, NE; great-grandchildren, Easton, Ella and Emmarie Becker all of Ankeny, IA; Harrison and Preston Sjuts both of Trumbull, NE; Colby Schwin of Elk Grove, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three halfbrothers, Roy Dowdy, Pete Dowdy and Jack Blunk and two halfsisters, Ella Saylor and Ruth Frisbee. (suttonmemorial.com/obituary)
