Doughty, a former Norfolkan who supervised building of the spillway at the mill dam on North First Street, died April 28 at Homestead Nursing Home, Lincoln. He was 101. Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk. Terry Bowland, minister of the First Christian Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitations will be Sunday, 3-9 p.m., at the Home for Funerals. Mr. Doughty was born in Norfolk on Nov. 12, 1886, to the late Charles Edward and Carry May Hutchins Doughty. He attended the first Lincoln School (the present school was built later) and attended grades 4-12 at the old high school that stood where the public school administration building is now located at Sixth and Philip. He was graduated from Norfolk High School in 1905, one year before a fire destroyed the building. He was graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, as a civil engineer in 1911, and was a member of Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering fraternity. He later was employed by a railroad and the Iowa State Highway Department. In 1918, he returned to Norfolk. During World War I, he was the Norfolk city engineer and later was manager of the Norfolk Gas Company. In the 1930s, he returned to engineering and later was with the State Board of Control. He had lived in Lincoln since 1942. He married Carrie Edith Evans on April 21, 1915. She died in 1965. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Mildred) Boyer of Lincoln, Mrs. L. A. (Ruth) Bitters of Leawood, Kan., and Mrs. Orville (Mary) Carlisle of Norfolk, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son and two sisters.
