Description	:	Mrs. Walter (Lorna) Schmidt, 79, died Friday, Dec. 25, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. The funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. F. Philip Strain officiating. Burial was in sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. The Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. A prayer service was held Sunday at the funeral chapel. Casketbearers were Richard Feser, Harvey Fliehs Jr., Charles Judd, Jerry Johnson, Steven Krueter and Allan Kroll. Ushers were Maurice Olson and Gerald Osterman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Northern Normal and taught school in the county from 1920 to 1922. She then married Walter Schmidt April 15, 1922, in Brown County. She worked as a nurse’s assistant at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen from 1962 to 1965. She lived in the Groton area all of her life. She was a member of the Tuesday Crackerjack Extension Club and the West African Circle. Mr. Schmidt died in 1966. Survivors include three sons, Clarence, Seward, Neb.; George, Groton; and Gordon, Bath; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Cook, La Habra, Calif.; Mrs. Otho (Dorothy) Schaller, Conde; Mrs. Rodney (Gladys) Ritter, Reedling, Mich.; and Mrs. Harvey (Bernice) Fliehs, Groton; one sister, Mrs. Cora McClure, Minneapolis, Minn.; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and three grandchildren.
