Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dorothy died Monday, March 5 at her home. Dorothy June Schmidt was born on June 16, 1925 near Groton, SD to Walter & Lorna (Gengerke) Schmidt. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. She was baptized July 19, 1925 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ferney and was confirmed December 1, 1940 at First English Lutheran Church in Groton. She graduated from Groton High School with the class of 1943. She was a telephone operator in Groton. On July 7, 1945, she married Otho "Oats" Schaller at Groton and they made their home in Chicago and after a few years they moved to Ferney where she worked for Ferney Farmers Union Co-op until retiring in 1981. They moved to a hobby farm northwest of Ferney and later to Aberdeen to be near family. Oats died on May 11, 2006 at Aberdeen. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a past member of LWML at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ferney, Sunday School teacher and singing in the choir. She loved cutting hair and doing perms. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking, especially birthday cakes. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Dennis Schaller, West Hills, CA; daughters, Janet (Bill) Stump, Poulsbo, WA, Holly Judd, Aberdeen, SD; brother, Gordon (Marilyn) Schmidt, Aberdeen, SD; sisters, Gladys Patsy (Arnie) Miller, Jonesville, MI, Bernice (Harvey) Fliehs, Groton, SD; grandchildren, Courtney, Colin Stump, Allan Judd (Heather Caponette), Christopher, Marcus Judd, great-granddaughter, Candace Judd; god children, Tami Pigors-Cramer, Judy Fliehs-Feser, Linda Cook-Meimitis, and Lois Konkol. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oats, parents, Walter & Lorna, son-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Judd, brothers, Clarence (Sylvia) Schmidt, George (Deloris) Schmidt and sister, Mildred (Robert) Cook.
