Mrs. Poppen was the wife of State Sen. Henry Poppen, De Smet. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church, rural De Smet. Burial wil be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Delmar Cramer, Emil Nelson, Dennis Helder, William Cronkhite, Keith Larson and William Poppen. Lorna Poppen was born July 10, 1924, at Bonilla, to Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer. She grew up on the family farm near Bonilla and attended rural school there. After graduating from Bonilla High School in 1941, she continued her education at Huron College and graduated from there in 1945. After college graduation she taught English and speech classes at Highmore, Onida and Wessington Springs, for several years before her marriage. She married Henry Poppen Oct. 26, 1952, at Huron. The couple lived at Huron for 1 year where she worked in Christian education at the Presbyterian Church. They moved to a farm north of De Smet and continued to farm here until the time of her death. She was a member of Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church Survivors include her husband, De Smet; two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Nanette) Venhuizen, Omaha, Neb., and Elizabeth Poppen of Austin, Texas; her mother, Mrs. Mildred Meyer, Huron; four brothers, Camden of Twin Falls, Idaho, Harlan of Sioux Falls, Norman of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Kerwin of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters, Elaine Meyer of Vermillion, Mrs. Clinton (Leora) Rearick, Hitchcock, and Mrs. Calvin (Caryl Lynn) Poppen, De Smet.
