Description	:	Lorraine Luft Oelkers, 84, a longtime Culbertson resident was welcomed home by the Lord early Sunday morning, June 3, 2012, at Roosevelt County Memorial Hospital in Culbertson. Family services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Culbertson at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Al Beyer will officiate and inurnment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Culbertson. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Williston is assisting the family. Friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences with the Oelkers family online at www.fulkersons.com. Lorraine was born on Jan. 1, 1928, to David and Selma Luft. Lorraine was raised on their homestead northwest of Culbertson in a large, loving family including her parents, eight siblings and her grandpa, Johann Conrad Luft. She was baptized and confirmed at the German Friedens Gemiende Church. She often shared that she memorized the Catechism in the German language. At age 18, Lorraine and some of her younger siblings moved into Culbertson where she cared for them while they attended school. When employed at the drug store/soda fountain, she started having conversations with the local milk deliveryman. These conversations led to her marriage to Russell Ralph Oelkers on Nov. 25, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church. This marriage of 63-½ years is a testament to their strong love and devotion. Russell, her children and grandchildren provided her tender care as her health declined. Lorraine was selflessly devoted to her family, church and community. She was active in WELCA, Sunday School, Bible Study, Cottonwood Club, volunteering at the Culbertson nursing home and the museum. Her favorite pastimes were playing pinochle, quilting, crocheting, traveling and spending time with family. She welcomed family and their friends into her home with homemade pastries and baked goods. Her pastries were the first requested at any bake sale. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Russell; six children, Ron Oelkers, Vivian (Jack) Beals, Arliss (Rich) Redekopp, Linda (John) Sorensen, Vicki (Gordon) Miller and Gordon (Ardis) Oelkers, 14 grandchildren, Teresa Beals, Craig Beals, Ryan Redekopp, Scott Sorensen, Amy Quigley, Carmen Hayes, Kara Halvorson, Heidi Flateau, Casey Sorensen, Robyn Redekopp, Ashley Wishman, Nicholas Oelkers, Renee Oelkers and Lucas Oelkers; four great-grandchildren, Nyreece Halvorson, Rigley and Rock Beals, and Asher Redekopp; three brothers, LeRoy (Agnes), Roger (Paula) and Vernon (Liz) Luft; and four sisters, Christine (Ira) Jensen, Hulda (Marvin) Oelkers, Rose Oelkers and Bev Sundheim. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Pauline Waldow, and her daughters-in-law Shairl Oelkers and Aggie Oelkers.
