Description	:	Funeral services for Lorraine M. Starman will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Carroll, Iowa. Visitation will also be held one hour before service time at the church in Carroll. Burial will be held in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carroll, Iowa. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa where a Catholic Daughters of America rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm and a vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm. Lorraine Margaret Nieland was born June 28, 1928 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Lappe) Nieland. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Angela Academy in Carroll, Iowa and graduated in 1947 from Iowa School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Anthony J. Starman on May 3, 1950 in Carroll, Iowa. Tony died on August 1, 2002. Lorraine owned and operated Lorraine's Beauty Shop in Fort Dodge from 1958 to 1963 and in Maquoketa from 1976 to 1990. After retiring from the beauty business, she attended Clinton Community College and worked part-time at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Maquoketa as a volunteer teacher's aide. She was a member and past Regent of Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael #1156, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Choir, Friends of the Library, Jackson County Historical Society and Maquoketa Historical Preservation Committee. She was active in the Republican Party and was a member of the Jackson County Republican Central Committee, serving as their secretary for several years. She was a member of the Corporate Board of Jackson County Senior Citizen Center, a member of Jackson County Conservation, Maquoketa Garden Club, a Jackson County Hospital Auxiliary bridge marathon player and song leader for Maquoketa Church Women United Services. Lorraine received the Governors Volunteer Award for education from Governor Branstad in 1995 and she was an avid bridge player. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Mrs. Tim) Kelleher of Ft. Dodge and a son, Barry Starman of Long Grove. 2 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Marilyn (Mrs. Bob) Gibbs of Ames and a sister-in-law, Alberta Nieland of Missouri Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Dennis Nieland. Memorials may be given to Jackson County Hospice or Sacred Heart School, Maquoketa. Lorraine M. Starman of Maquoketa died Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa following a lengthy illness at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 24 days.
