Louie Charles Breding was born Dec. 7, 1906, in Coleridge, Neb., the oldest of eight children to Henry and Pearl (Becker) Breding. As a very young boy, his family moved to Randolph, Neb., where Louie went to school until the sixth grade. In the spring of 1920, he moved to the Winner area with his family and worked on the family farm. When Louie got older he bought a place of his own next to his parent's farm, 12 miles southwest of Winner, where he started farming and ranching with horses, and later with a tractor. Then in 1933 he met his soul mate (love of his life), Alice Petersen, at a local dance. The young couple were soon married July 24, 1933. They lived on a ranch outside of Winner where they started their family together. In May of 1951, the family moved to the Ekalaka area to ranch with their eight children. Here the family grew by three more children. The family built and moved into a new home in 1970 where they enjoyed electricity and running water for the first time and, in 1978, Joe got a phone for them for the first time. Louie and Alice made their home on the family ranch for 50 years until they moved into Fallon Medical Complex after Louie broke his hip and leg. Louie and Alice celebrated 72 amazing years of marriage. He was a hard worker and believed in getting work done before play, but he played hard, too. He always said that God helps those who help themselves. He was a very self-sufficient man, taking care of many of the family medical needs, including delivering all of the children, except for the last three, and even setting a broken arm using a medical book for reference when needed. Later on in life, Louie and Alice enjoyed their travels in the fall of the year to visit family out side of the area. Louie is survived by his three sons, Louie "Bud" Breding, Bowman, N.D., Johnny and Sue Breding, Ekalaka, and Joe Breding, Ekalaka; seven daughters: Alice Ward, Ekalaka; Betty and Mike Simonitsch, Ekalaka; twins, Ida and Herb Schade and Ella Schaaf, Bowman, N.D., Dorothy and Richard Noack, Ennis, Mont., Lois and Kenny Burghduff, Belle Fourche, Esther and Tim Hannon, Aurora, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Connie Bowers, Buffalo; two sisters, Vera McFadden of Ontario, Calif., Aileen Anderson of Bridgeport, Neb.; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchild. His parents; his wife Alice; two sons, Bill Breding and an infant son; four sons-in-law; a granddaughter, Peggy Koch; five sisters, Clara, Wilma, Edna, Dolly and Agnes preceded him in death.
