Description	:	Louie Day, Jr. was born July 11, 1923, Luis Generoso Diaz Pumerino in Vera Cruz, Mexico, and passed away July 12, 2016, at the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center in Sheridan, Montana. He was the oldest of the five Day children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his two sisters Amada and Dahlia, his brother, Herman, and his two grandsons, Scott and Greg Day. He was the oldest of the five Day children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his two sisters Amada and Dahlia, his brother, Herman, and his two grandsons, Scott and Greg Day. He is survived by his brother and two sons and their families [survivors names omitted]. Louie and his family’s story is that immigrants who achieved the American dream. When he was eight, during the years of the Depression, Louie’s parents decided to leave the family ranch in Mexico. They rode mules to Mexico City and caught trains to Billings, Montana, where Louie’s uncle helped them settle. He began school there without knowing a word of English. During World War II, Louie served as an enlisted soldier primarily in the South Pacific. When he returned, he became a naturalized citizen. He promptly met and married Dorothy Butz and used his G I bill to attend MSU in engineering. Shortly thereafter, Louie began his 30-plus year career with the Soil Conservation Service residing mostly in Townsend and Sheridan. Meanwhile he and Dorothy raised their two sons, Dan and Pat, who gave them five grandchildren. He was a doting grandfather. Upon retirement, he returned to his Mexican roots spending winters in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, and summers in Montana. Louie will be remembered fondly for how he cherished the outdoors whether at work or at play. The greatest legacy he left us was his passion for collection artifacts and sharing his learned knowledge of indigenous peoples. Cremation has taken place and a memorial time and place will be announced later.--Montana Standard, July 18, 2016
