Louis was born in Big Timber on April 22, 1912, the son of A.N and Eline Hegdal Grosfield, both of whom were born in Norway. He graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1920 and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota the following year. On November 14 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa, he married Evelyn Finsvik. They ranched for many years northwest of Big Timber on Swamp Creek where he grew up. Later they moved to the north end of the ranch on Big Timber Creek. Louie was very involved in the Big Timber Lutheran Church. He actively supported world missions through the Lutheran Church both in Big Timber and in Santa Barbara, California, where the family spent several years beginning in 1957. In 1959 he visited missions around the world as a founding member of the World Brotherhood Exchange. Later he and Evelyn enjoyed being hosts to friends and family at their new ranch home on Big Timber Creek in the shadow of the Crazy Mountains. He loved gardening, traveling, playing bridge, and the outdoors especially the ranch. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and six siblings. He is survived by his sister, Lillian Knutson of Powell, Wyoming; son, Lorents, and his wife Sydney and three grandsons Nikolas and Zackary of Big Timber and Arik and his wife Rachel of Bozeman; daughter Eline Knudson and two granddaughters Karla and her husband Jeff Wiegrefe, and Kristin and her husband Adrian Gaytan, all of Minot, North Dakota; daughter, Ivanie Nelson and her husband David Nelson of Billings; daughter, Allison Grosfield of Seattle; four great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to be sent to the Big Timber Lutheran Church, or to either the Assisted Living Project or the Hears and Hands Hospice at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 20 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Lowry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
