Description	:	Louis Boersma, age 95, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at a care center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Bemis Holland Presbyterian Church, rural Bemis, SD. Rev. Terry Drew will officiate. Music will be provided by Marsha Kurtenbach as organist with congregational singing. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Burial will be at the Castlewood Cemetery near Castlewood, SD. Pallbearers will be Lynn Hoitsma, Bob Raasch, Gordon Boersma and Roland Walter. Louis was born on May 5, 1920, at home in Deuel County, SD, to Gerrit and Anna (Vanderzee) Boersma. He attended country school through the eighth grade in Deuel County. Louis worked on the family farm with his dad and also worked as a farm hand for Vleger Farms in Hospers, IA. He graduated from Diesel and Gas Engine Mechanics in Los Angeles, CA, in 1942. Louis returned to South Dakota and worked several years for International Harvester in Watertown and later for Westensee Implement in Clear Lake. On October 1, 1946, Louis married Joy Raasch in rural Castlewood, SD. In 1950, he and Joy moved to a farm east of Watertown and rented land. They purchased a farm east of Castlewood in 1956 which is where they made their home for over 35 years. They retired in 1992 and built a new home west of Watertown. Joy preceded him in death in 2014. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, visiting and going for daily drives in the car with his daughter, Joan. Louis is survived by his daughter, Joan Boersma, of Watertown; one brother, Jr. (Berdene) Boersma, of Watertown; and his nieces and nephews: Sharon (Eric) Coustry of Indianola, IA, Gordon (Ruth) Boersma of Howard, SD, Susan (Lonnie) Gray of Clear Lake, SD, and Roland (Maeve) Walter of Aberdeen, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy; his parents; three brothers; and three sisters. - Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel site.
