Joy Cemetery, Park View. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Mr. Marten passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 1, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. He was born May 10, 1928, in Maysville, the son of Albert and Viola (Meier) Marten. He married Burnette Ganzer on Oct. 16, 1968, in Quincy, Ill. Mr. Marten was formerly employed at Walcott Elevator, then at the Borden Company in Rock Island for 20 years. He recently farmed, owned and operated Marten Trucking in Long Grove and was a representative for Cornelius Seed Corn. Mr. Marten was a member of Jackson County horse and harness Association. He enjoyed attending horse sales, farm auctions, pony rides and spending time with his grandkids. Memorials may be made to the Jackson County Horse and Harness Association or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. Survivors include his wife, Burnette "Bea"; his children and their spouses, Judy DeTrent, Daryl Marten and Mike and Glenna Rohlf, all of Davenport, and Dean and Dori Marten, Long Grove; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Abernathy, Davenport; and brothers, John and Donna Marten, Quincy. Delmar and Marilyn Marten, Big Rock, and Jim and Karen Marten, Walcott. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Micaela Clements; his parents; and a brother, Elmer.
