He died at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, Friday, April 7, 2006 at the age of eighty-seven. Louis was born on a farm in Goodrich Township near Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on April 25, 1919 and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith September 1, 1936 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He received his education in a rural school near his home. Read More	Louis Henry John Gehring (1919 - 2006) Louis Henry John Gehring was born February 6, 1919, the son of Wilhelm and Hertha Schade Gehring. He died at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, Friday, April 7, 2006 at the age of eighty-seven. Louis was born on a farm in Goodrich Township near Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on April 25, 1919 and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith September 1, 1936 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education, he began farming, working for neighbors and relatives. He also worked for Gosch Blacksmith Shop in Schleswig. On October 10, 1941, Louis was united in marriage to Darlyne Farley in Maryville, Missouri. The couple made their home on the farm and were blessed with the birth of four children. The couple later moved to Vail, Iowa where he began driving trucks for Hoffman Trucking. Louis and Darlyne moved back to the farm several years later, before moving to Denison. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed dancing and playing cards with his family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in various sporting events such as soccer and softball. He was an expert checkers player, having never been defeated and was always willing to play a game when the occasion arose. Louise was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sandy; two grandchildren, Kraig Steinkuehler and Ally Chisholm; three sisters: Adele DeConnick, Arlene Sovinski and Lucille Gehring and two brothers, William Gehring and Victor Gehring. Survivors include: his wife, Darlyne of Denison; two daughters, Deb Steinkuehler and her husband Don of Denison and Denise Chisholm and her husband Stanley of Ida Grove, Iowa; one son Terry and his wife, Carol of Orion, Illinois; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Leone Gehring of Denison. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Vicar Douglas Bergelin and Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiated the services. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me." Grandchildren serving as pallbearers were: Kevin Steinkuehler, Michael Gehring, Rhonda Webber, Jamie Chisholm, Katie Chisholm, and Amanda Drey. Great-grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers were: Lindsey Chisholm, Dominic Drey, Hailey Chisholm and Logan Drey. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at Cronk's Restaurant in Denison. Inurnment was held Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery in Denison. The Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
