Louis Jacob Petersen was born Oct. 5, 1890 in Viborg, S.D. to Peter Christian and Maria Jacobsen Petersen. At the age of one he moved with his parents and brother James to Burt County where they resided in the Silver Creek community north and west of Tekamah. He attended District 4 and Paddock School District 23. He was baptized and received into Silver Creek Baptist Church in 1907. His membership was later moved to the Tekamah Baptist Church when the two churches merged in 1953. He was united in marriage to Ethyl Rose Henry on December 25, 1911. the couple had two sons, Erwin and Norman. Petersen was an area farmer and livestock producer, was catcher on the Silver Creek baseball team. He gave 25 years of service to the School Board of District 23 and served 20 years as the treasurer for the Silver Creek and Tekamah Boards. He was honored 50 year member of Odd Fellows lodge. Petersen moved to Tekamah Senior Citizens Home on Feb. 19, 1965. His wife preceded him in death in Feb of 1935. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Chris, and one grand daughter. Survivors include his two sons, Norman and Erwin both of Tekamah, seven grand children, 13 great grand children, and other relatives and a host of friends.
