Born June 24, 1916 in Carroll, Mr. Nockels was a son of John and Hazel Nockels, one of the pioneer families of Carroll County. He graduated from Carroll High School then attended the University of Iowa for two years and the American Institute of Business for one year. Mr. Nockels worked for seven years on the railroad in Carroll. He served in the Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He returned home and worked on the railroad for two years until he started as a clerk in the Carroll Post Office in 1948. In 1953 he became a route carrier, a position he held for 20 years. After his retirement from the Postal Service he opened the Carroll Cafe, which he operated in his own building at the corner of Fifth and Main streets. Mr. Nockels and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Camarillo in 1979. He was a member of the American Legion in both Carroll and Camarillo, a charter member of the Elks Club in Carroll, a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, where he served as treasurer for many years. Mr. Nockels is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn; three children and their spouses: Louise and Larry Dick of Camarillo, Jim and Dessa Nockels of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Joe and Nancy Nockels of Norfolk, Neb.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and an infant brother. Mrs. Nockels address is 33206 Village 33, Camarillo, Calif.
