July 6. — A double tragedy that officers believe ended a family quarrel was discovered Sunday afternoon when the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Threewit were found by their car at the side of a lonely road 12 miles southwest of Eureka by Ed Davis, of Severy. Mrs. Threewit had been killed by a bullet from a .38 caliber revolver fired by her husband, who then turned the gun on himself, Greenwood county officers believe. The revolver was found clasped in the man's right hand. The condition of the bodies indicated that the shooting had been late Saturday afternoon. The bullet had entered the woman's temple and passed through the back of her head. The man was shot in the head also. Their Ford coupe, standing nearby, carried a 1926 California license. An envelope containing $26 was found in Threewit's pocket. It was addressed to his son-in-law, Harold Phillips, at Wellsville. Kan. Officers were so sure after an investigation that Threewit had killed his wife and then taken his own life, that no inquest was held. Relatives of the dead persons arrived in Eureka Monday and substantiated the theories of the officers, the officers said. The bodies were taken away for burial. Mrs. Threewit had been married before and her former husband (sic) died four years ago and was buried at McCune. Two years later the woman married Threewit and moved to California.
