Lessard is listed as a "miner, bakery, Main" in that years issue of Sherman's Belt Cities Directory. OBITUARY: Hot Springs Weekly Star - Jan 6, 1910 Tuesday morning Lew Lessard was found unconscious in the snow near the Nicholson apartments on Minnekahta Avenue. It seems that about twelve the previous evening he left the Hot Springs House, where he had stopped to get warm, and started up the Soldier's Home road. Evidently he became mentally unbalanced and entered a barn near the C. R. Foster residence and disrobed, with the exception of his underclothing in which condition he was found by one of the roomers of the apartments the next morning. He was taken to his room and a physician was summoned and later it was decided to have him removed to the Sisters Hospital. His hands, feet and face were badly frozen but he would no doubt have pulled through but for other complications. Tuesday morning, after suffering all night, death came to his relief. He was a man about 45 years of age and leaves a wife, from whom he was divorced, and two children. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) and the remains laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery. BURIAL: Evergreen Cemetery, Lot 2, Block 10, Section B. Lew married Lewella Mae ABBOTT "Lulu", daughter of Andrew Jackson ABBOTT and Mary E. KENESTRICK, on 5 Feb 1892 in Hot Springs, Fall River Co., South Dakota. The marriage ended in divorce. Lulu was born on 30 May 1874 in Fort Collins, Larimer Co., Colorado. She died on 23 Jan 1911 in Deadwood, Lawrence Co., South Dakota from From death certificate - Diabetes.. She was buried in Mt. Moriah Cem., Deadwood, Lawrence Co., South Dakota. MARRIAGE: News from February 12, 1892 Hot Springs Star: At the residence of Mr. H. Loehr, this city, Louis Lessard and Louise Abbott were united in Marriage. Judge M.L. Kanable performing the ceremony. (On 14 Jan 1904 Lulu had their bonds of matrimony dissolved at Deadwood, South Dakota as a result of a court decree which states, in part: "the Defendant is guilty of using intoxicating liquors to excess, and of habitual drunkenness, and that the Defendant for more than two years prior to the commencement of said action, has failed to support the Plaintiff and his family by reason of idleness and dissipation.")
