Description	:	Louis O. "Louie" Wagoner, 81, a well-known resident of Peshastin for the past 70 years, died Monday morning, Aug. 25, 1997, in Leavenworth. He was born on Oct. 7, 1915, at the old town of Grand Coulee along with his twin sister, Lula, to Chauncey and Cora (Kiennenberger) Wagoner. The family moved to Springdale and in the '20s to Peshastin, where Louie grew up and received his education. "Louie" Wagoner, 81, a well-known resident of Peshastin for the past 70 years, died Monday morning, Aug. 25, 1997, in Leavenworth. He was born on Oct. 7, 1915, at the old town of Grand Coulee along with his twin sister, Lula, to Chauncey and Cora (Kiennenberger) Wagoner. The family moved to Springdale and in the '20s to Peshastin, where Louie grew up and received his education. As a young man, Louie was quite a local sports figure, playing basketball and baseball as well as boxing. A picture of him in his boxing days hangs on the wall of memorabilia at the Big Y restaurant, where he loved to visit with his friends. On June 25, 1938, he married Ethel M. "Babe" Bersing at Peshastin. They lived in Leavenworth for a short time and in 1943 they returned to Peshastin. He was employed by the Peshastin Lumber and Box Co. as a heavy-equipment mechanic and later worked for VanDoren Sales in Wenatchee until his retirement in 1980. During the winters of the '60s and '70s he worked at the Stevens Pass Ski area. He was a member of the Peshastin United Church of Christ, the Leavenworth Royal Bavarians and was a former member of the Peshastin Kiwanis Club. Louie was dearly loved by the community that he loved so much. He spent many hours being involved and sharing with his community. He was one of the founders and the first president of the Peshastin City Council. He was the community Santa Claus for many years, arriving by helicopter at the Peshastin school. He also was the Easter bunny and was instrumental in starting the Easter egg hunt. For years the Wagoners' home during the Christmas holidays was a highlight for children of all ages to view the spectacular lighting and Santa, complete with his sleigh and eight reindeer, with Rudolph's lighted nose guiding them over his rooftop. A light has gone out in Peshastin but Louie's light will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren and the community of Peshastin. Louie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Winterburn of Bellingham; son and daughter-in-law, Louis Gary and Judy Wagoner of Peshastin; two brothers, Bill Wagoner of Pateros and Warren Wagoner of Spokane; four sisters, Juanita Gillem and Lula Platz, both of East Wenatchee, Mable Howden of Yakima and Helen Eiffert of Twisp; six granddaughters, Kristin (Don) Wood, Kami (Rusty) Larson, Karen (Mo) Thompson, Sandy (Gary) Prosser, Stephanie Winterburn and Allison Winterburn; three grandsons, Chris (Jeri) Winterburn, Sean (Rene) Winterburn and Dirk Winterburn; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Noah Wood and Marissa Thompson, Mitchell, Abby, Waylon and Kaylee Winterburn; and special friend and loved one, Dorothy Fuller Silva. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Babe, in 1991; infant daughter, Sharen; two brothers, Harold and Everett Wagoner; one sister, Blanche Fahey; and son-in-law, Tom Baker. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
