Description	:	Louis was the son of Henry Gerken and Mary Winter. July 18, 1939 - Carroll Daily - Templeton - Louis P. Gerken, 59, who had lived in Templeton for twenty years, died at his home here at 5 a.m. Tuesday. The direct cause of his death was a stroke which he suffered Monday after being in ill health for a long time. He had been confined to bed the greater part of the last eight months. Mr. Gerken, a carpenter by occupation, followed his trade during all of the time that he lived at Templeton. He was born June 21, 1880, at New Vienna, Iowa, at which place he waa married to Miss Christina Lange, also of New Vienna. Surviving with his wife are eight children: Edwin Gerken, Omaha; Erwin Gerken and Julius Gerken, Richmond, Ind.; Marie Gerken, Omaha; and Flora, Elmer, James and Edgar Gerken, at home. He also leaves two grandchildren. Mr. Gerken was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Templeton, and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Active in Knights of Columbus work, he had served as grand knight of the local council for several terms. He had also directed the Knights of Columbus hand until he was taken ill.
