Thies, who died at his home in this city on Thursday, had enjoyed fairly good health for a person of his advanced years. Two weeks ago he suffered a stroke. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Thies, early settlers of Waterloo township, where he was born May 14, 1863, and grew to manhood in that vicinity. For several years he farmed near Ivanhoe, Minn. While there he married Freelove Eastman on June 11, 1905 at Minneapolis. In 1913 they came to Waukon and in November 1917 purchased a farm in Jefferson township which was the family home for 27 years. In October 1946 they purchased the residence in Waukon where his death occurred. Surviving are his widow, three daughters and five sons, namely: Mrs. Reuben Frink (Minerva) near Rossville; Mrs. Herbert Meine (Emma), northeast of Waukon; Mrs. William Hennessy (Florence), Marin City, California; Howard and Leonard, Waukon; Frank, near Rossville; Lewis of Pueblo, Colo., and Elmer on the home farm in Jefferson township. Also two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Olson, Canby, Minn., Mrs. Emma Peterson, Frank and Ray Thies of Minneapolis. There are twelve grandchildren. Waukon Republican-Standard 23 Mar 1948
