Description	:	From a newspaper: Louis William Happel, who lived southeast of Sterling, died Thursday, December 9, at the age of 75 years, one month and three days. He was apparently doing his morning chores when he suffered a fatal heart attack. A neighbor found him Thursday evening. Read More	From a newspaper: Louis William Happel, who lived southeast of Sterling, died Thursday, December 9, at the age of 75 years, one month and three days. He was apparently doing his morning chores when he suffered a fatal heart attack. A neighbor found him Thursday evening. Louis, son of John Happel and Emma Mahler Happel, was born at Wisner November 6, 1896. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Pender December 13, 1896. At the age of four he came to Sterling with his family. They lived on the farm five miles southeast of Sterling until 1905, when they moved to town. During this time he attended elementary school. He attended confirmation school at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church south of Sterling, where he was confirmed by Pastor Christian Sick March 20, 1910. Mr. Happel remained a member there until his death. In 1910 his family returned to the farm southeast of Sterling. As a young man Louis established himself in farming and operated a custom corn shelling business for many years. He played baseball on the Sterling team for a number of years. October 19, 1921, he was united in marriage with Amelia Eilers. Two children were born to this couple. They farmed in the Sterling vicinity. In 1936 they moved to the Happel home place. She died July 29, 1969. Mr. Happel continued to live on the farm. Survivors include a son, Donald of Hooper; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Lucille) Stone of Kearney; two grandson, Randol Happel and Lyndon Stone; two granddaughters, Kay Happel and Karen Stone; a brother, Herbert of Lincoln; and three sisters, Mrs. Nora Panko, Mrs. John (Dora) Eilers of Sterling and Mrs. Edward (Lora) Eilers of Greeley, Colo. His parents, wife, one sister and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 11, in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church south of Sterling, with Rev. W. R. Debner officiating. Pallbearers were John Aden, John Epley, Otto Johnson, Alfred Kempkes, Orville Wusk and William Wusk. Interment was in the Sterling cemetery.
