Description	:	Louisa C. Zimmer died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City at the age of 94. She was born to Herman and Mary (Bernert) Langer on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1918, near Mason City. Her father died when she was four and a half years old. She and her mother returned to the home of her grandparents, Felix Bernert Sr. Louise attended the Basin District 37 rural school through the eighth grade. Zimmer died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City at the age of 94. She was born to Herman and Mary (Bernert) Langer on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1918, near Mason City. Her father died when she was four and a half years old. She and her mother returned to the home of her grandparents, Felix Bernert Sr. Louise attended the Basin District 37 rural school through the eighth grade. She was a 1935 graduate of Mason City High School taking Normal training classes. She taught in rural schools for three years. Clement Zimmer and Louisa were married April 20, 1938. Eight children were born to this union. They lived on farms south of Mason City until 1976, when they retired to Mason City. She and her daughter, Loretta, ran a small grocery store for 12 years. Clement and Louisa celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1988. During her lifetime she baked many loaves of bread, gardened and made many quilts for her family. She was a very patient 4-H mother in dealing with her children's projects and demonstrations. She was a church organist for 35 years, passing the gift of music to many of her children and grandchildren. She was a life-long member of St. Thomas Church in Mason City until its closing. She was now a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. She was a member of the Altar Society, Double B Club, Sunshine Library Club, Senior Citizens Club and Canasta Club. Louisa continued to live in her own home until the end of January 2012. Health problems caused her to move to Rose Lane Home for four months until her death. Her children are Loretta Lovitt, Charles (Judy) Zimmer, Jim (Joan) Zimmer all of Mason City, Phyllis Zimmer of Shawnee, Kan., Phillip (Donna) Zimmer of Mason City, Betty VanDyke of St. Paul, and Dorothy (James) Clark of Kearney. She was preceded in death by her husband Clement in 1988; one son, Bernard in 1973; son-in-law, Ronnie Lovitt, and grandson Michael Zimmer. Published in Custer County Chief, June 7, 2012
