She had been in poor health all winter but the past week she grew steadily worse. She was born in North Carolina, March 29, 1846. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1857 and since that time she has resided around and in Letts. She was united in marriage to Remine Knott in 1867 [December 26]. Three children blessed this union. Of these only Mrs. Belle Barnett of Letts survives. Mr. Knott died in 1878 [September 5] and she was again united in marriage in 1881 [September 8] to Daniel Thompson. His death occurred in 1903 [February 2]. Mrs. Thompson moved to Letts from a farm in 1899, where she has since resided. One sister, Mrs. Ella Eade [nee Hellen E. Harrison] of Muscatine, mourns her demise. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Church at 2 o’clock, Rev Phillips officiated.” AND Burlington Hawk Eye (Burlington, Iowa) March 7, 1916 "Mrs. Thompson of Letts Letts, Ia., March 6. Mrs. Thompson, a pioneer resident of this locality, passed away at her home here this morning at 5 o ’clock. Her death followed an illness of months. Early in the winter she contracted a severe cold which brought on a complication or diseases resulting in her death. She was a native of North Carolina being born on March 29, 1846. The family came to Iowa in 1857 and located near Letts. In 1867 she was united in marriage to Remine Knott, three children blessing the union. Of these, Mrs. Belle Barnett of Letts is the only survivor. Following the death of her first husband in 1878, she was united in marriage to Daniel Thompson in 1881. His death occurred in 1904. Mrs. Thompson moved to this place from a farm in 1899. One sister, Mrs. Ella Eade of Muscatine, mourns her demise. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church here." Mrs. Louise Thompson [nee Harrison] was born in North Carolina March 29, 1846, died at Letts. Iowa, March 6, 1916, aged 69 years, 11 months and 8 days. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1857, and settled near Letts. In 1867 she was united in marriage to Remine Knott. In this union three children were born: Mrs. W[illiam] T[homas] Barnett [nee Belle Remine Knott] survives. The other two children died early in life. Following the death of Mr. Knott, which occurred in 1878, she was again united in marriage to Daniel Thompson in 1881. They moved from the farm to Letts in 1899. Mr. Thompson's death occurred in 1903. When 18 years of age Mrs. Thompson was converted to Jesus Christ in a meeting held by Rev. Michell Lee, in the Washington school house. She immediately united with the Methodist Episcopal church and continued a most faithful and earnest member of the same until called to the church triumphant in heaven. Mrs. Thompson was a Christian with a strong faith and a clear vision. To her the unseen world was as real as the visible and she talked of the one as freely as she did of the other. She walked by faith and not by sight. To her God was always near, Jesus always precious and the Holy spirit always a comfort and a guide. She never neglected to read the Bible and to pray. She was constant in her attendance upon the services of the church as long as her health and strength lasted. She was economical in her manner of living and liberal in her contributions toward any benevolent course. She gave according to her ability, cheerfully and with a willing mind. And though her presence will no more be seen in the pew, her voice no more heard in prayer and song, and testimony, yet she will live long in the affections and memory of her friends and fellow worshipers, and her influence will continue to witness to the power of Jesus to save unto the uttermost all who trust in Him for this life and the life to come. Mrs. Thompson's departure will be mourned by her only surviving daughter, Mrs. W. T. Barnett. one sister, Mrs. Ella Eade of Muscatine, and a host of friends. Mrs. Thompson was a loving mother and a kind neighbor. The funeral service was held in the Letts M. E. church at 2 p.m., on March 8, 1916, conducted by the pastor, Rev. D. Phillips, assisted by Rev. Boyd, pastor of the Letts U. B. church. A large, concourse of friends and neighbors and members of the Eastern Star Chapter were present to express their last earthly respects to one whom they had known and loved so long. The remains were tenderly laid to rest beside her husband in the family lot in the Lettsville cemetery. "Home at last, thy labor done, Safe and blest, the victory won: Jordan passed, from pain set free. Angels now have welcomed thee."
