Description	:	Funeral services for Louisa Hastings of Sterling will be conducted Friday from the First Presby terian Church, the Rev. Ivan E. Rundus, D.D., officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hastings, a northeast Colorado resident since 1911, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1989, at a Sterling nursing home. She was 90. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hastings, a northeast Colorado resident since 1911, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1989, at a Sterling nursing home. She was 90. She was born Oct. 2, 1899, in Armour, S.D., the daughter of John P. and Trena Kiel McMillan. The family came to northeast Colorado in 1911, settling in the Fleming area. She attended school in Fleming and Greeley State Teachers College (now University of Northern Colorado). She later taught at Star School (near Fleming), Happy Valley School (near Merino), Highway School (southeast of Sterling) and at Fleming Junior High School.She married Vernon J. Hastings June 1, 1920 in Fleming, shortly after he returned from serving in France during World War I. He died Aug. 20, 1971. Mrs. Hastings moved to Sterling and recently resided at MacGregor Hall.She was active in the Democratic Party, serving as precinct committee person for over 50 years. Among the many honors she received was being named Logan County Democrat of the Year. She was also a member of the Jane Jefferson Club, Elbridge Gerry Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, was active in home demonstrations clubs for many years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Red Cross Hospital Volunteer. Mrs. Hastings is survived by two sons, Vera Hastings of Sterling, former Logan County Sheriff, and James Hastings of Denver; a sister, Wilma McFalt of Oregon; five grandchildren, Tom Hastings of Sterling, Kitty Peterson of Greeley, Judy Borgeson, Donna Hastings and James V. Hastings, all of Denver; and one great-great-granddaughter. Chancy-Walters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
