Description	:	Louise Oleson passed away on Monday, April 9 at the Ruthven Community Care Center where she had lived for the past 4½ years. Louise was born on September 2, 1918 in Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Vaughn and Lena Wiegman Vaughn. She loved life on Sunnyslope Farm, the family farm in Rolfe, and especially enjoyed doing chores with her father. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and married Don Oleson on July 28, 1940 at Sunnyslope. Louise was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, farmer, teacher and volunteer. She loved life on Sunnyslope Farm, the family farm in Rolfe, and especially enjoyed doing chores with her father. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and married Don Oleson on July 28, 1940 at Sunnyslope. Louise was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, farmer, teacher and volunteer. She taught for 30 years in area elementary schools. Her salary in 1939 was $85 a month and her contract stipulated that she could not marry while she was teaching. After her retirement, she continued educating through community presentations, especially those involving agriculture. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. After her husband's death in 1984, she lived independently on her farm. Louise was a lifelong musician, beginning with her family band at Sunnyslope. She played violin and piano and was a church organist for many years. She also organized and directed handbell choirs at area churches. Her survivors include her children Lavon Grover (Richard) of Omaha, NE, Jim Oleson (Frankee) of Ames, IA, and Linda Oleson of Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren Tracy Pearson (Phil) of Denver, CO, Jeff Grover (Callista) of Omaha, and Troy Grover (Aimee) of southern CA; her great grandchildren Gracia and Joah Grover of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and brother. Memorial gifts may be given to Lost Island Lutheran Church or to Ruthven Community Care Center.
